• The El Paso Zoo joined this global effort in 2010 to help maintain a sustainable population of Przewalski's horses in North America as a safeguard to preserve the species if something ever happens to the wild population.

• The Mexican wolf is in big trouble and may soon go extinct in the wild for the second time in the past 40 years.

• Solar energy is the generation of electricity from sunlight. Look on the roof of the Kalahari Research Station for a series of solar panels. Energy generated by these panels is returned to the electric grid in El Paso.

• In the last century, rampant ivory poaching and habitat loss caused African elephant numbers to drop from over ten million animals in 1900 to fewer than 500,000 by the late 1980's. The Zoo encourages people to think and act both locally and globally in helping wildlife.

• Help end the "Palm Oil Crisis" and save the last remaining habitats for orangutans, Asian elephants, tigers and other endangered species by contacting companies that use palm oil in their products.

• The Zoo is asking everyone who knows of Burrowing Owls that may need our help with safer nesting locations to contact the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's Urban Biologist.

• The Zoo is asking everyone to learn about frogs and the many ways we can share natural habitats in our city with them. Visit our Take Action page to learn more and tell others what you have learned.

• Show your support for Asian elephants. Contact the Education Department and ask for a poster to hang up in your school or at a local business. Make a donation to the El Paso Zoo to help the Zoo with its overall conservation efforts or sign up for a Zoo Adventure program.

• You and your family can join the Zoo in conservation and education efforts around the world by making a tax deductible contribution to the El Paso Zoological Society Conservation Fund.

• You and your family can help spectacled bears by first becoming informed and then getting involved in conservation and education efforts.

• The El Paso Zoological Society is a nonprofit organization with the purpose of supporting the El Paso Zoo and its programs in conservation, education and recreation. Right now there is so much going on at the El Paso Zoo and we wouldn't want you to miss any part of it. El Paso Zoo is a member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association.

• Learn more about marine conservation issues and tell others, including lawmakers, how you feel about them. Together, we can solve or prevent many of the problems our ocean friends face
